Michelle Joachim – Brathwaite is the owner of “Waite1 to Cross Over”. A small veteran owned business that solely addresses the needs of End-of-Life Doula Care.

I am a member of INELDA (International End of Life Doula Association and certified by the VUM (University of Vermont as an End-of-Life Doula). I received my Doctor in Ministry (DMin) from Payne Theological Seminary, in Wilberforce, Ohio; and my Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia. I also obtained my Board Certificate in Chaplaincy from the NAVAC (National Association of Veterans Affair Chaplains).

I am compassionate, empathetic, sensitive, and concerned about what families, friends, and clients are facing as they walk through grief, anticipated grief, loss, and fear. The unknown is real and only special people can hop aboard the train with those moving into and through such a season in life. Each encounter is different and unique. Being able to respect the needs of all concerned with these life experiences requires a soft and tender touch. I’m here to provide that, in a dignified and approachable manner.

ROANOKE

My grandmother was my first teacher. As a young child, she would talk to me about death. When she died on October 31st, 2015, it shattered me in many ways, but strangely enough softened layers of spiritual tension. While I was heartbroken at her absence, I felt a transformation within. It was as if she planted seeds for my entire life and when she died, they bloomed. She is who I believe led me here through the mysterious realms beyond Death. My work as an End-of-life Doula is her legacy work. I truly believe that everything I have learned from this calling is her teaching me from beyond the veil. In a way, I dedicate it all to her.

I believe that it is possible to find meaning, truth, and wisdom in grief and the dying experience. It is my hope to walk with you on this journey as you plant the seeds for your own loved ones. I meet my clients exactly where they are, providing deep listening and compassionate presence as you explore your own life and what death means to you. It is my wish to offer my clients a safe container to feel and express what needs healing while providing the support in helping you create a vision for a death that is peaceful and transformative. Deborah Draves-Legg

As part of nature, we, too, follow a rhythm—a cycle of existence, growth, development, and ultimately, death. As a Death Doula, I understand the profound significance of this natural order and am dedicated to guiding individuals and their families through the transformative journey of dying, extending my support to those grappling with sudden losses or lingering grief from the death of a loved one.

Our society often shies away from acknowledging talking about death; it is often overshadowed by fear and sometimes a poor understanding of diagnoses and medical interventions.  My background in hospice care and 30 years of experience as a registered nurse provide a solid foundation of expertise and professionalism in this field. My Death Doula Certification training was by Henry Fersko-Weiss, who pioneered the concept of the Death Doula 20 years ago. As a Transformational Presence coach, I believe the light within us shines the way toward realizing our purpose and reason for being.

If you or a loved one are on the end-of-life journey or have experienced the sudden death of a loved one and are seeking compassionate, holistic care, please reach out for guidance and support. You don't have to navigate this path alone. Together, we can embrace the mysteries of life's final transition and find peace in the process.
