Katherine T Topazio RN BSN

Nurse, Teacher, Manager, End-of-life Doula, and Founder of Such Is Life Death Doula Services. Graduate of Villanova University - Psychology; Nursing, certifications as Nurse Educator, Palliative/Hospice Trainer, and End-of-Life Doula. Nurse for over 37 years.

Career-long experiences holding space for others during life’s transition led me to become an End-of-Life Doula. I realize that there is no place so lonely as the one we occupy when faced with losses of any kind. Learning to be present for others without judgment or preconceived notions honors and respects a life lived. Support can be very important for identifying, acknowledging, and honoring end-of-life wishes. “Being willing to walk alongside another person on whatever journey they’re on…” (Plett, 2015) makes a difference for everyone. Creating space for someone else’s experiences and ensuring a safe environment allows for grieving well and proper closure. I believe that Such is Life can provide these much-needed services. Certified EOL Doula through the Conscious Dying Institute.

As a death doula, I provide compassionate support to individuals and their families during the final stages of life. From the diagnosis of a terminal illness to final breath and beyond, I offer non-medical guidance, comfort, and practical assistance. I help families navigate emotional and logistical challenges, ensuring that the dying person's wishes are honored and their journey is peaceful and dignified. I help create a comforting and supportive environment, fostering a sense of peace and acceptance during this sensitive time.

Returning to school after the death of a parent or sibling is a deeply emotional and challenging experience for students. As a death doula with a background in education, I understand that this transition can feel overwhelming for both students and their families. I provide practical support that honors the grieving process while helping families and schools work together to create a compassionate and supportive environment.

I serve the North Shore of Massachusetts. I received my Death Doula training with Olivia Bareham through Sacred Crossings: The Institute for Conscious Dying and Alternative Funeral Home in Los Angeles, California. I completed an Introductory Course on Grief Support: Supporting Children, Teens and Young Adults through the Dougy Center Grief Education and Training.

Britta Bacon

I am an End of Life Doula, trained through the International End of Life Doula Association. As an End of Life Doula, I am a companion of the dying and the bereaved, an active participant in their journey, and provide emotional and spiritual support. I provide many services, such as:
- Assist in organizing and planning around death, such as power of attorney, advanced directives, wills, finances, funeral arrangements, etc…
- Educate and guide individuals and their families in decision making processes such as VSED, declining or stopping of life sustaining treatment, pain and symptom management, and palliative sedation.
- Provide services such as deep active listening and structured life review, planning and orchestrating rituals, vigil planning/vigil sitting, legacy projects, guided imagery, Reiki, music therapy in the form of crystal singing bowls, respite care for families, and using feng shui techniques to organize the room to better serve the dying, family, and medical team.
- Assist in planning for death before illness is present.
- Organize and host Death Cafes. This is a safe space where anyone can come and freely speak on death (experiences, grief, fears, etc...) without the fear of being judged and even meet some like-minded friends along the way.

Though we all deserve a good life, we are all more deserving of a good death. Through my services, I strive to help you find what "the perfect ending" looks like for you.

Serving Massachusetts and the greater New England area (also assisting virtually).
